About

The Cultural Empowerment Project is a non-profit, community organization that is dedicated to creating inclusive programming for Black, Indigenous, Multi-racial, Differently-Abled and 2SLGBTQ+ identifying people in the Durham Region. Our mandate is to bridge gaps in the community by encouraging, motivating and educating ourselves and others. Our motto is “Pride comes from knowledge”, and we strive to bring these words into action by structuring programs and activities that build self-esteem, self-recognition, independence and self-determined direction.

About the founder

As a Black woman in Canada, I am passionate about creating spaces where Black, Indigenous and Multiracial community members can have open conversations and can feel safe expressing themselves. I have lived within Durham Region for the past 35 years and have seen and experienced the slow progression of the services and resources available. Today, my focus is on creating action by structuring programs and activities that build self-esteem, self-recognition, independence and self-determined direction.
